Youth Art Haven's (YAH) mission is to serve as a transformative youth and community program that integrates the arts, art-therapy and sustainable development in response to poverty and the exploitation of children and adolescents in Northeast Brasil.
“In these times of economic, climatic, social and political instability a piece of land can represent a shelter in the storm…and it can be our refuge in moments of collapse.”
Marsha Hanzi, permaculture pioneer
YAH is gearing up to build its first Eco-Cultural Center. The Center will employ bio-construction to build a safe, ecologically sustainable center for impoverished and exploited youth and their communities to practice permaculture* and explore their innate creativity while building art trade skills. Youth Art Haven will begin serving communities with day programs to combat poverty and exploitation. As the project grows, it will include a residential program where sexually exploited youth can find refuge and therapy as they develop life and professional skills for social reintegration.
“Consciously designed landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs”
David Holmgren: Co-Founder of Permaculture
